IT Security Risks Redefined !!

Well today I get the real chance to be scrutinised by three fellas from the IT Dept. who are actually making their routine checks specifically to spot any eligible "security risks" from normal users like us ... yeah thats "us" and by definition we are the ones who by default pose more risks than these so-called experts ...

I was initially asked three questions and answered them as expected ... not that they are easy but you can easily be caught if you're not very focus tho'. Then the final straw .... "where's your smartcard reader ??" Huh !!! (me with my puzzled hesitant look) and my finger pointing to it innocently and I feel like rebutting ... "what the heck is that question for ??"... then another one follows "where's your smartcard then ??". Oh well ... then the whole things are in much clearer perspective already ... darn ....

This fella somehow is surprised that I've logged to the PC without the smartcard inserted in the reader. But fortunately one of the "smarter" one figures out the "mistake" and then starts explaining to his counterpart that smartcard need not to be in the reader at all time ... meaning you log in with your smartcard and just simply remove once you're done. Smartcard is not supposed to be left in the reader after initial logon.

OK I may not be IT smart elect ... but that's very fundamental and an IT person not knowing this basic stuff is way unimaginable ... such incompetency easily falls within the brackets of the "IT security risks" .... ironic ain't it ... one-nil to average PC users . ha.ha... another moral victory ....
