QQeStore - Online SuperStore Thursday, August 31, 2006
http://www.qqestore.com/index.php
This may not be comparable to what other developed countries ie., the likes of US/UK and others can offer but I feel this is a positive step with respect to online shoppings in Brunei. I "pretested" the system with an online order today, got the response few hours later (yeah !! stock is available) and expecting them to be delivered this afternoon by their fowarder. Not bad really considering that courier charge is only $12 (Temburong and Kg Ayer excluded tho'). It could cost me more if I were to collect them personally from KB to their Pick-up center @ Kiulap. BTW, offered prices are competitive as well !!.

An Inside Look At The iPod Shuffle Monday, August 28, 2006
That's what it's like when the much more affordable iPod Shuffle is dissected. No LCD display may be a big let down which I believe is geared for joggers or sports person but I can say that it does sound good to my ear at the very least. Afterall it's a lot cheaper than the iPod Nano for a start.

Google Office Sunday, August 27, 2006
http://www.oneworkplace.com/ourclients/portfolio/google/portfolio_google_1.html
This is how Google drives the creativity of their workers. Just look at their office. That should rightfully fall under the bracket of "the employer of 1st choice" .... how I wish >>. Emmmm ... I just wonder if that's a sign that Google is on a mission to conquer the IT world ?

Close Encounter With The Mars
The date 27th Aug, 2006 is exactly when we'll get the rare chance to encounter closest approach between Earth and Mars .... next chance to come this close will be 2287. By the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10 pm and reach its azimuth at about 3 am. By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 am. So think about it ... no one alive at this moment in time will get the 2nd chance to experience such encounter.
Quote :
"The encounter will culminate on 27th Aug when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth. It will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide."

Always Give Your 100% At Work ... Tuesday, August 08, 2006
My gut feeling is that we've given more than 100% ... no wonder we're overworked and somehow grossly underpaid. ha.. ha ...

IT Security Risks Redefined !! Tuesday, August 01, 2006
Well today I get the real chance to be scrutinised by three fellas from the IT Dept. who are actually making their routine checks specifically to spot any eligible "security risks" from normal users like us ... yeah thats "us" and by definition we are the ones who by default pose more risks than these so-called experts ...
I was initially asked three questions and answered them as expected ... not that they are easy but you can easily be caught if you're not very focus tho'. Then the final straw .... "where's your smartcard reader ??" Huh !!! (me with my puzzled hesitant look) and my finger pointing to it innocently and I feel like rebutting ... "what the heck is that question for ??"... then another one follows "where's your smartcard then ??". Oh well ... then the whole things are in much clearer perspective already ... darn ....
This fella somehow is surprised that I've logged to the PC without the smartcard inserted in the reader. But fortunately one of the "smarter" one figures out the "mistake" and then starts explaining to his counterpart that smartcard need not to be in the reader at all time ... meaning you log in with your smartcard and just simply remove once you're done. Smartcard is not supposed to be left in the reader after initial logon.
OK I may not be IT smart elect ... but that's very fundamental and an IT person not knowing this basic stuff is way unimaginable ... such incompetency easily falls within the brackets of the "IT security risks" .... ironic ain't it ... one-nil to average PC users . ha.ha... another moral victory ....
